A CloudConvert alternative that converts in your browser

CloudConvert is a German company with the widest format coverage in the business and a clean, honest security page — isolated containers per job, deletion immediately after processing, and no permanent storage by design. If you need a format we do not support, or an API to convert at scale, they are the right answer.

Every claim about CloudConvert on this page links to CloudConvert’s own documentation and was checked in August 2026. If something here is out of date, it is a mistake rather than a tactic — our own posture is documented too.

Where the difference actually matters

Conversion is the one job that never needed a server

ffmpeg, ImageMagick-class image handling and PDF rasterisation all compile to WebAssembly and run at usable speed in a modern browser. For the common formats — the image, video, audio, document and archive conversions most people actually need — sending the file away is now a choice rather than a requirement.

Your laptop is the rate limit

There are no per-day conversion quotas, no minutes to buy and no queue, because you are the only person using your CPU. The trade is real and runs the other way for very large files: a two-hour video will convert faster on their hardware than yours.

Nothing to select a region for

Data residency is a question about where your file is processed. Ours is processed on the machine in front of you, in whatever country that is.

What CloudConvert does better

  • Far wider format coverage than ours — hundreds of formats including proprietary and CAD types a browser cannot open.
  • A real API with job queues, webhooks and batch processing. We have none of that.
  • Region selection for processing, which matters for data-residency requirements.
  • ISO 27001 certified, and their security page is one of the more straightforward in the industry.
  • No file size ceiling imposed by your own laptop’s memory.

If one of those is what you need, use CloudConvert. This page is here to help you pick, not to win.

Questions people ask

Is CloudConvert safe?

Their published posture is strong — isolated containers per conversion, deletion immediately after processing, no permanent storage by design, ISO 27001 certification and region selection. This page does not dispute any of it.

When should I still use CloudConvert?

When you need a format we do not support, when you need an API or batch automation, when the file is too large for your own machine, or when you need to pin processing to a specific region.

How many conversions can I do on Benchnook?

As many as you like. There is no quota because there is no server cost per conversion — the work happens on your device.

Which formats does Benchnook convert?

Image, RAW, vector, video, audio, spreadsheet, document, PDF, subtitle, archive and font formats. Every supported pair has its own page — see all converters.
